We welcome proposals for learning sessions.
A few tips on proposing a learning session at Share Your Smarts Sshool:
- Come to us with a clearly-developed topic for a potential learning session. Tell us about your topic and let us know how you came to be knowledgeable about your topic.
- Identify if there is a potential audience for your topic. Would there be potential interest in your topic among society in general and/or among people you know (your network)?
- Categorize your content: general interest or CEU-style. Topics for general interest sessions can be richly varied as long as they fall generally within standard guidelines for public discourse – similar to continuing education classes at a community college. For CEU-style learning sessions, content needs to be more formal and academic in nature. The topic and content need to be along the lines of content that would be accepted for credit by professional industry associations. Share Your Smarts School is looking into getting cetification to offer formal credit forr CEU-style learning sessions.
- Content delivery. Can you present your topic in a one hour learning session and/or several one-hour learning sessions?
- Be creative in choosing a title for your learning session. For example, I was raised by a blind parent. If my mother wanted to deliver a webinar about her life experience/perspective, she might call the learning session “How to raise sighted children.”
- Delivery and scheduling. We have methods for attracting learners/attendees/students for your learning sessions – be willing to participate in this process. Also, be prepared to think through dates and times for your learning sessions. Often, evenings and weekends are good times for people to attend sessions. In some contexts, good times for scheduling learning sessions will vary depending on the audience.
